Outdoor activities

If you’re looking to spend some time in the great outdoors this spring season, there are plenty of unique destinations to explore. One of the most distinctive places to visit is Congaree National Park, located just outside of Columbia. Here, you’ll find the largest intact expanse of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the country, making it an ideal spot for hiking and nature watching. For those seeking a paddling adventure, the Congaree River Blue Trail is a 50-mile trail that runs through the heart of Lexington County. You can rent a canoe or kayak and spend the day floating down the river, taking in the stunning scenery and wildlife.

Another great destination for boating, fishing and swimming is Lake Murray—just minutes away from Lexington. With mild weather and fewer crowds, spring is an ideal time to visit this scenic spot. The Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve is another destination you won’t want to miss as it boasts a large sandstone outcropping, known as Peachtree Rock, and a variety of hiking trails through the forest. During the spring, you can enjoy the colorful display of wildflowers in bloom.

Finally, if you’re looking for a beautiful park to enjoy a leisurely hike, Lake Rabon Park is a must-visit just outside of the city of Laurens. With hiking trails wind through the woods and around the lake, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the park’s diverse wildlife and scenery.

City excitements

If you’re looking for a city adventure to enjoy this spring, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do just that around all of our new home communities. A great place to spend a rainy day is the Columbia Museum of Art. The museum features a diverse range of art, from contemporary to classical, and hosts special exhibitions throughout the year.

Exploring downtown Columbia on foot is another fun spring activity. You’ll find historic buildings, unique shops and plenty of restaurants and cafes to discover. Spring also brings the perfect weather to catch a baseball game in Columbia. Head to Segra Park to cheer on the Columbia Fireflies, a minor league team, and enjoy views of the city skyline while indulging in delicious food and drink options.

If you’re looking for a unique event to attend, you’ll definitely want to add the Lexington Wine Walk to your list. This annual event takes place on Saturday, May 16 in downtown Lexington and offers wine tastings from local wineries with plenty of live music, food and shopping to explore. Within the city of Sumter, you also won’t want to miss the annual Iris Festival on May 25 through May 28. A celebration of the blooming irises in the area, you’ll also be able to enjoy live music, food vendors and a variety of activities that are perfect for all ages.
