What Happens After You Close on Your McGuinn Home
After you close on your McGuinn home, you can settle in knowing our team is still here to help! We’ll make sure you understand your home before move-in, give you clear warranty resources, and provide specific checkpoints to make sure everything’s working like it should during your first year. Here’s how our post-closing support works.
Complete Your New Home Orientation
Before you move in, we guide you through an in-depth orientation of your new home. The goal is to help you feel comfortable using your home’s systems and everyday features from day one!
During orientation, we’ll show you:
- How the home’s systems work (heating/AC, plumbing, electrical, or appliances)
- How our warranty program works
- Where to go if you need help after closing
Closing day comes with one more little McGuinn touch! You’ll also receive a tote bag stocked with move-in essentials like hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper, water, and a snack. It’s a small way for us to show our appreciation and help make move-in day a little easier.
Review Your New Construction Home Warranty Coverage
Your McGuinn home includes post-closing support through our in-house warranty team and a new construction home warranty administered through Quality Builders Warranty (QBW) and backed by Liberty Mutual.
QBW’s program provides up to 10 years of coverage, with different protections applying during different parts of the warranty period.
Coverage generally includes:
- Year 1: Defects in workmanship and materials, including areas such as roofing, windows and doors, flooring, cabinets and countertops, heating and cooling, plumbing, and electrical.
- Year 2: Defects involving wiring, piping, and ductwork, including issues such as pipe leaks, ductwork separation, and certain electrical failures.
- Years 3-10: Qualifying major structural defects involving covered load-bearing portions of the home, such as foundation systems, bearing walls, structural floor systems, roof framing, and load-bearing beams.
Our in-house team handles qualifying warranty issues after closing, giving you a direct McGuinn contact if something needs attention.
Your warranty documents spell out the coverage that applies to your McGuinn home, so they’re the best place to check if you ever have a question about a specific issue. QBW also notes that its 10-year warranties can transfer to a future buyer for the remainder of the warranty term, which can be a helpful added benefit if you decide to sell your home before the coverage period ends.
Use Your First-Year Warranty Checkpoints
We give McGuinn homeowners two scheduled opportunities to report qualifying warranty items during the first year: a 90-day checkpoint and an 11-month checkpoint. These give you time to live in your home and notice items you may want our team to review.
You don’t need to wait for either checkpoint if a concern comes up sooner. Our warranty resources and request forms include first-year forms and information you can reference after move-in.
These first-year checkpoints can also serve as a simple new construction home checklist reminder. Keep notes as you settle in so you can submit qualifying items with clear details and photos when needed.
Submit Warranty Requests to Our Team
If a warranty concern comes up after closing, our in-house team is here to help! Homeowners can submit a request through our online warranty form or email warranty@mcguinnhomes.com, and you can expect a response within 48 hours during regular business hours, excluding weekends.
We handle warranty requests through the form or email rather than by phone, which helps our team keep details documented and follow up appropriately.
You can find the McGuinn warranty request form and additional warranty information whenever you need it.
