McGuinn Hybrid Homes Is Giving Away a TV at the SC Poultry Festival

Next weekend, McGuinn Hybrid Homes is giving away a 55-inch TV and various gift cards at the South Carolina Poultry Festival. For 32 years, this annual event turns Batesburg-Leesville into the fried chicken mecca of the South. Hundreds of thousands of hungry visitors flock to Batesburg-Leesville for the festival, which raises money for local charities and community initiatives. South Carolina’s poultry industry accounts for more than $1 billion in annual revenue—processing eggs, chicken, turkey, and other poultry. The idea for the Poultry Festival arose back in 1986. The owner of a local restaurant known for its amazing fried chicken pitched it to members of the Leesville Merchants Association. They embraced the idea and laid the plans for the first celebration, which took place in May 1987 and drew 20,000 people to the Twin Cities. The Poultry Festival kicks off Thursday, May 9, at 5 p.m. Spend an evening experiencing the carnival amusements, food, and live entertainment. And if you’ve never attended a Southern fair, get ready for the mouthwatering specialties, like chicken and waffles, bird dogs (chicken on a stick), funnel cakes, and just about anything that can be fried (Oreos, pickles, green tomatoes). On Saturday, get started with the 5K road race (fun run and walk) so you can burn off some of those calories. Plan to come running to the Chicken Calling Contest at 11:30 a.m. With 6 stages, there’s continuous entertainment happening throughout the festival. The K-9 Flight Frisbee Dogs will take you to new heights with a demonstration of their leaping and catching skills. The schedule also includes golf, corn hole, and volleyball competitions, antique car show, parade, street dance, and one of the largest fireworks spectacles this area ever sees!
